The INTP is that smug jackass that automatically takes the contradictory position then argues, not for the sake of their position, but to tear apart everyone else’s ideas by nitpicking verbal inconsistencies and confusing their opponents by manipulating logical gaps and re-contextualizing arguments to highlight unintended implications. The INTJ is the one that picks up the debate right when everyone else in the class is giving up and fights hard to logic the INTP into conceding their point. The INTJ gets frustrated that the INTP won’t stay on point, and those emotions lead them to make more errors for the INTP to exploit. The INTP is entertained by watching how everyone spins out over the course of the debate.

I haven’t watched the show so I can’t comment, though I imagine this imagine will end up in Sherlock INTP vs INTJ debate.

i was literally just thinking about MBTI typology and Sherlock today in my science class, and came to the conclusion that BBC Sherlock is an INTP
And yeah, he’s a bitch to type I think, and the debates are endless, but ignoring typical archetypes and narrowing him down to just this series’ characterization, I think it’s fair to say that he’s Perceiving, not Judging.

but when you consider P vs J, Sherlock frequently dwells on the P side
—- clearly a rule breaker, shows very little—if any—concern towards legal formalities and lawful etiquette.
—- “play first, work later” it’s helpful to remember that, for Sherlock, work IS play, so it’s easy to interpret this one incorrectly. You see Sherlock examining evidence (his “play” work) and is interrupted texts from Moriarty asking him to meet here at so-and-so time. Sherlock ignores this business. It’s not until much later when the texts get urgent that Sherlock FINALLY gets a move on to get “business” done
—- the above also coincides with running late, not punctual
—- “playful and casual” wrapped in a blanket sheet at a palace really.
—- spontaneous and Sherlock just GO together, he makes impromptu decisions constantly, that’s flexible
—- also, INTP is the least emotionally developed out of the Introverted types, and it’s no secret the Sherlock is absolutely lacking in his emotional capacities.

Friendship with INTPs develops at a pace which depends considerably on the temperament of the other person. INTPs dislike making the first move and tend to mirror the emotional content of the other person. A jolly person will quickly bring the INTP out of his shell, as much as that is possible, while a serious person will find a serious INTP looking back at him. In this sense, INTPs preference for intuitive perception (rather than action) with respect to people results in them resembling a chameleon. The INTP can fit into many different modes of behaviour, even contradictory ones, in order to get into the mindset of the other person. The goal is to gain enough intuitive data to analyse and assess the person. In doing this, the INTP remains somewhat reserved, never wholly identifying himself with his surroundings. As chameleons, INTPs are therefore approachable and open, unless the Ne tells the INTP that the other person is a type he doesn’t like, in which case the reserved attitude may become too obvious. The chameleon behaviour can be particularly strong when discussing something. The INTP may even argue something that he doesn’t really believe himself. Sometimes it is for the intellectual stimulation that comes with the challenge of arguing from a variety of standpoints. Otherwise, it may be to avoid early conflict before the situation has been fully assessed. Chameleons hide their true selves. INTPs do not do this cynically, or indeed all the time, but it is a result of the strong desire to remain detached and observe. [x]
